On a blustery Friday evening seventy people braved the
weather to attend the opening of Organic Elements an Art exhibition by
Cape Patterson artist Graeme Henry, Mornington artist Elena Ryazanoff
and Pakenham artist Ian Jensen-Schmidt at Island Influence Gallery where
the exhibition was held at
The Big Flower Farm, Newhaven, Phillip Island.
On entering, Graeme’s eight beautiful pastel paintings
of Shells and seven watercolour and colour pencil drawings of wildlife
of the Galapalos Islands greeted the viewer, surrounding them with
wonderful detail.
|
Ian Jensen-Schmidt's thirteen abstract oil paintings,
inspired by his love of landscape, created an atmosphere that talks of
the bush, sea and sky.
Opposite Elena Ryazanoff's 17 textural works of figures
evoked feelings of passionate relationships and sensitive feeling of her
environment.
|
Although using very distinct styles, the themes of sea,
nature and its spirit made the works complimentary, many on the night
commented on this and felt the exhibition to be uplifting and
refreshing.

feel my way into the interior life of these strange and beautiful forms."
In 1992 he resigned from his position as Chairperson in Drama at Latrobe
University to develop his visual art skills and has since been actively
exhibiting with various galleries and group shows, has won three awards and

Although using very different styles, the
deep love of the environment, the fascination of its history,
the feeling it
gives and the way we relate to it are the organic elements that link these
three talented artists.
