The love of the line and the
patterns in nature have held a long fascination for Josephine Allen, whether it
be the nature of humanity or the environment.
The Exhibition Moons &
Moonahs was about two of her loves, the moon and the essence of trees. She first
discovered Moonah trees on Churchill Island in the late eighties and immediately
related to their twisting forms and saw in them ancient stories. The spirit of
the moon, the subtle and/or dramatic light have long held her captive and she
started translating these feelings onto paper and canvas over ten years ago.
The Exhibition was a survey
of these themes over a decade, as well as recent works. It included drawings in
pastel and paintings in oils.
The Exhibition was
held during the period of
June 12 to June 27, 2004 at Churchill Island Art Space, Phillip Island,
Victoria.
